CITIES INSPIRING, ASIA – East Asian City Forum

2008.09.27-09.28

While globalization becomes the mainstream in this era, the skyline and architecture in different cities shows more similarities but less local characteristics. Asian cities, on the other hand, are recognized as an emerging area with stable economic growth, high profile diversity, and rich cultural assets. It is quite a pity that, therefore, these Asian cities fall into the global trends and lose their own cultural identity in the urbanization process.

Held by both JUT Foundation and King Shih Architects, this two-day forum invites fourteen experts, scholars and professionals related to architecture and urban planning from Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, and Taipei to exchange their viewpoints about city development. Through brilliant discussions from different perspectives, the forum is expected to discover a new way to form the unique identity of Asian cities and to stimulate more exciting ideas about the balance between globalization and localization.
